An Eevee's Story

Chapter 1 ~ First Day

The sunlight shone into the little room of  Emmi, a female Eevee who lived on the outskirts of the forest near a small town. Emmi's parents had decided to move here because of problems they were having with neighbors who had concerns about Emmi. Emmi had been born with a special birthmark on her forehead that their neighbors feared were markings of an evil creature. To escape, her parents decided to move away in order to avoid criticism from the community.
Emmi had no memory of when she had lived in her hometown, so she had made friends in her new home. Today was Emmi's first day of kindergarten  at the local school in the area, and she was up and ready early that morning because she was so excited.
"Mom! Dad! Wake up! You promised you'd take me to my first day of school today!", Emmi shouted as she ran into her parents' room.
"Oh, I'm sorry, hunny.", said her mom, a young and beautiful Espeon. "I forgot that it was today. But why are you up so early? School doesn't start for another hour or so."
"I know, mom, but I'm just so excited to see all my friends again that I couldn't sleep.", Emmi said.
"Well, can you give me and your father a few minutes to wake up and then we can go eat breakfast?", her mother asked.
"Ok, mom!", Emmi said, "but don't take to long!"
At this, Emmi ran out of the room shouting, "I can't wait for school!". Her mother settled down in bed again for a little before waking Emmi's father, a young and strong Umbreon.
"Hey, hunny.", she said. "Wake up. Your daughter is all jittery and excited for her first day of school. I think she would be disappointed if her own father couldn't wake up in time to walk her to school."
"I know hun.", he said. "Ugh, my head still hurts from last night though. I don't know if I can handle the long walk there and back."
"Oh, don't give me that crap, Shadow.", she said. "You know as well as I do that this is an important day for Emmi and your going to walk with us. It's wasn't my decision for you to have all those drinks last night."
"I know, Star, but I can't help but wonder how Emmi is going to do in school. None of the students know what her mark stands for, and if her teachers do, I'm afraid that the children will find out and no one will want to be friends with her.", he sighed.
"I know, hunny. I've thought about that a lot too. I feel like she needs to know why she has that mark. Her friends are constantly asking her about it and she won't stop asking me to find out the answer.", she said. "Maybe it's time to tell her the truth."
"Wait, hun. What if she does find out the truth? What will she think of herself?", Shadow asked her.
"I don't know, but I do know one thing.", she said as she started to leave the room. "She's going to find out one day. Why can't it be today?"
With that she left the room to go find Emmi and left Shadow there pondering over the situation with his daughters mark.
"I wonder," he said to himself, "if she did know, maybe her understanding of the situation at this age will help her cope with it later in life. Or will it only encourage hatred towards herself?"
"Dad, are you coming or not!", Emmi shouted from the kitchen through a mouthful of berries. "We're gonna be late if you wont get off your lazy butt!"
"Emmi!", Star shouted at her. "That's no way to talk to your father! He will be out in a minute and then we can leave."
"Ok, mom.", Emmi said as she finished off what was left of her berries.
Just as her mother has said, Emmi's father came out of the bedroom and they all headed towards the school building. The air was a little chilly, so Emmi put on her sweater in the morning light. They walked in silence mostly, except for the occasional shout from Emmi, who was way ahead of them, always getting excited by the simplest things.
Soon they began to see the school. Emmi became even more excited and when they were close enough to see all the other students, she ran ahead of her parents and began talking with her friends. Star and Shadow both headed over to the teacher, a young Vaporeon, who was just starting his first year of teaching. They signed her in and then began to walk away when Emmi ran up to them.
"Are you gonna leave me here without saying goodbye?", she asked as she gave her parents hugs and kisses.
"I'm sorry, hun. It just looked like you were busy with your friends, and we didn't want to disturb you.", her mother told her. "Anyway, you should get back. School's about to start. We will be here at three o' clock when school ends, ok?"
"Ok, mommy. Love you. See you when you come back!", she shouted as she turned and ran back to catch up with her friends who were already heading into the building.
"Bye, hunny. We love you!", her parents shouted after her.
They began to walk home again after they watched her go into the school building. It was silent for awhile, but soon they began talking about the situation with Emmi's mark They agreed to tell her after school when they were home so no one would overhear their conversation and the story behind her mark.
I've decided that, since I'm new on dA and I want to contribute to this website with art, but I cant draw on the computer, I figured I'd use my creativity to write a story. Anyway its my first story and I would like any opinions, good or bad, and any ideas you might have for any other chapters, because I konw I will continue to write. ^_^ Thanks everyone.
