An Eevee's Story

Chapter 17 ~ Uncle

          Unaware of what was going on back at the house, Derek, Emmi, and Luna pushed on towards her uncle's house in the dark. They had some light from the moon, but that didn't really help much. As they pushed on, however, Luna end Emmi began to ask differently. Derek didn't really understand what was going on, until he noticed that Emmi's mark was glowing. He feared that she might be getting angry again, until he also noticed that something was glowing under the red ribbon around Luna's left ear.
          He didn't really know what they glowing meant, but when he had them stop for the night, just shy of the hill that Emmi's uncle lived on, he took the red ribbon off Luna's ear and noticed another mark that looked almost identical to Emmi's, but it was green. He couldn't quite make out what this all meant, until he realized that both marks were of a crescent moon. He looked up into the sky and saw what he had hoped wasn't there; a crescent moon.
          He quickly wrapped the ribbon around Luna's ear and laid them both down on the blanket Crystal had given them. He didn't know what it meant when the marks were glowing, but he knew they couldn't stay here. They had to make it up the hill before the next day, fearing his dad would find them if they didn't. After awhile of thinking, he decided to try something gutsy; he was going to bring their uncle to them.
          He went over to Emmi and Luna. He awoke Emmi and told her about his plan to bring her uncle here to help them. Being in a daze, she only made out about half of what he said, but still told him to be careful. He hid them both in a small bush not far from the path, and headed up the hill to find Dan. He didn't know how this would end, but he hoped that he would believe what he told them..
          The night dragged on, and he continued to climb the hill. He was glad he decided to bring their uncle to them, because the hill was far more difficult to climb then he had originally suspected. By the time he had gotten to the top, he was ready to collapse and sleep.
          "No. I can't sleep yet.", he continued to tell himself. "I need to find Dan before my dad comes to get us again. Crystal can't hold him there forever."
          As he finally ventured towards the only house on the hill, a huge house, nearly as big as their school, the lights inside the house went on, and out rushed about six Eevees that surrounded him. He didn't really know what to do, so he sat down in the middle of their circle.
          They wondered why he wasn't putting up a fight, so they continued to circle him. All Derek did was sit there. They all started talking to each other, and one of them ran back inside. The other five stayed outside and began to ask him questions.
          "Ok. We don't know who you are, so that's our first question.", one of the Eevee's said. "Who exactly are you?"
          "My name is Derek, plain and simple.", he told them. "If you don't mind, I'm here to talk to Dan. Your father, I would assume?"
          "Yes, Daniel is our father.", another one of them said. By the looks of him, Derek assumed that he was the oldest, and even then it wasn't by much. Many of them looked to be about the same age. "Why do you need to talk to him?"
          "My friends Emmi and Luna are tired and can't make it up this hill to see him, and I was hoping I could get some help bringing them up.", Derek answered.
          "Wait..", one of the said. She looked to be about Emmi's age, probably in the same grade as them. "You said Luna, right? Aunt Crystal's daughter?"
          "That's right.", Derek said. "I also have Emmi, your cousin from your aunt, Star."
          At this they all began to talk to one another again, and the eldest one stepped forward towards him. He was definitely the tallest of the five, and much stronger. Derek couldn't tell, but he looked to be in about 2nd or 3rd grade.
          "Well, at any rate, you've told us who you are, so I guess we should tell you who we are.", he said. "I'm Andrew. And these are my brothers and sisters."
          In turn they all stepped forward to introduce themselves. Just as Derek had thought, they were all around the same age, and two of them were twins. Their names were Nick, Chase, and the twins Mary and Chelsea. They all began talking, when the last one of the, the youngest named John, ran outside to see what they were up to.
          "Hey, John.", Andrew said. "What did dad say?"
          "He said he would be right out.", John said panting. "Oh, I'm sorry for not introducing myself to you. My name is John."
          "Nice to meet you, John.", Derek said. "My name is Derek."
          For awhile, they all just sat down in the grass and were talking to each other, mostly about life on the hill and how Emmi and Luna were doing. Derek found out during all this, that they had never even met their cousin Emmi, and had only met Luna once. Awhile later, Dan came out of the house and sat down next to them.
          "So this is the unexpected Eevee you told me about, John..", he said.
          "Yes, dad.", Andrew told him. "He's been talking to us about cousin Emmi and Luna."
          "What about them?", Dan asked Derek, suspiciously.
          "Well, they are both at the bottom of the hill.", Derek told him. "Your sister, Crystal, sent us here after we had talked with her. She also sent Luna with us, that's why I'm here."
          "What could my sister want at this time at night?", Dan asked. "It couldn't have waited until morning?"
          "No, it couldn't.", Derek told him, his expression becoming more serious. "I don't know if you know him, but we're running away from Raiu."
          At this, Dan froze. He knew full well who Raiu was. He had been with Shadow the first time he had started trouble with the family. What he didn't know, was why Raiu would be after them.
          "In any case, seeing as I do know Raiu, why are you running from him?", Dan asked.
          "Raiu is after Emmi for her birthmark, and the power it has behind it.", Derek told him. "I've also learned that Luna has the same looking mark on her  left ear. I think they are somehow connected, and I can't let my father get a hold of them."
          "Wait..", Dan said. "Your father?", he asked him. "Your Raiu's son?!"
          "Yes, sir. That's right.", Derek told him.
          "Then how can I be absolutely sure that I can trust you?", he asked him.
          "If I was trying to deceive you, why would I bring your sisters into this?", Derek asked him.
          At this, Dan didn't have anymore questions. "Where exactly are they at, and how far is Raiu from here?", he asked.
          "They are at the very bottom of the hill, just hidden behind a bush to the left. My dad, however, I have no idea where he is. Crystal told us that she would hold him off as long as she could, but he has about ten others with him.", Derek told him.
          "Then there's no time to lose.", Dan told him. "Come on, kids. Lets go help your cousins. I understand that you might not want to retake the trip back up here, Derek, seeing as it is a giant hill, so if you want you can stay here with John. We'll be back in a few minutes."
          With that, Dan and five of his kids began the descent down the hill, to find Emmi and Luna and bring them back safely before Raiu could catch up to them, and for them, time was everything…
