An Eevee's Story

Chapter 22 ~ Good Morning

          Smoke filled their lunges as daylight broke over the horizon. The children all thought it was something their dad was trying to make for breakfast, knowing full well he wasn't the best cook, but the smoke was to thick for it to have been anything burnt. They all awoke to a start when Dan came rushing into each of their rooms, shouting for them to get out of the house.
          By the time everyone was outside, including Emmi and Luna, who before this point had been in a daze and couldn't remember anything, they realized they were all surrounded by flames. Dan immediately looked down the hill, where he saw an Eevee being chased by a gang of eeveelutions.  Almost without thinking, him and Andrew rushed down towards the Eevee to help him. As they neared the pokemon, Dan noticed that it was Raiu who was chasing the young Eevee.
          Dan rushed in and picked the Eevee up in his jaw, and quickly ran back up the hill. While trying to keep up with his dad, however, Andrew slipped, and the oncoming eeveelutions trampled him and threw him into the surrounding flames. The flames engulfed him, and he disappeared behind their bright light.
          Dan, however, hadn't noticed yet what had happened. Thinking only about getting the Eevee up the hill, he thought that Andrew had been right behind him the whole time. At the top of the hill, the children were scared and crying because they didn't know what had happened to their oldest brother. When Dan got up the hill, he was barraged with statements about what had happened to Andrew. Desperately, he looked back down the hill, where just as his kids had said, there was no sign of him.
          "Nooo!", Dan shouted. Anger rushed through him, and without thinking he rushed head on into the oncoming pokemon.  Blinded by rage, he was blindsided by the Umbreon leading the way. He wasn't focused on the Umbreon, however, and after regaining his balance, he charged again at Raiu, using his Flame Wheel. Raiu sat there, waiting for him to get closer. Suddenly, the Espeon and Umbreon teamed up using Confusion. Dan was knocked over and immediately smothered by the Leafeon, who used Sleep Powder.
          The children stared down at their father in horror, because they had never seen anyone take him down so quickly before. Emmi was beginning to get angry again, but Derek calmed her down before she lost it. Derek the urged Luna, John, Mary and Chelsea back into the house to hide. They would be safer there, he hoped, as long as the fire didn't reach them before the battle was over. They didn't agree right away, but they were scared inside when they saw the eeveelutions approach them again.
          "Your dad was too consumed with rage to see that it was a trap.", Gabe finally said after it had been silent for a few minutes.
          "What do you mean?", Chase asked him.
          "I mean they knew that if they went for one of you, your dad would act upon it, and that's what led to his downfall.", Gabe told him.
          "Well, if your so smart then, what do you suggest we do now?", Nick questioned.
          "Well, I don't know about you guys, but I'm going to fight.", he said. "I still don't know what happened to my dad down there, and I intend to find out."
          "Do you really think you stand a chance against the four of them?", Derek asked. "I mean, you just saw how quickly they took Dan down."
          "Again, that was because his vision was clouded. No, their not that strong. Before coming up here I took out one of them on my own.", Gabe answered.
          "Damn.", Nick said aloud. "Well, I'm glad your on our side, then."
          "Anyway, I'll be seeing you guys.", Gabe told them. "I have to finish what I started."
          At this, Gabe rushed forward and began to charge the group of four head on down the hill. Almost immediately, the group split up, and Gabe couldn't figure out who to go for. He was nearly blindsided by the Leafeon, but caught himself on the grass and used Iron Tail on him to send him flying. Happy about what he had done, he didn't see Raiu charge him with Volt Tackle. He was out before he hit the ground, and he had soured far over the edge of the flames farther down the hill.
          "My God, when is this going to end?!", Emmi shouted as she began crying. The Leafeon was out cold, lying near the edge of the flames about to be swallowed up by them, but they just lost their only chance of beating Raiu and the other two eeveelutions. Suddenly, a Leafeon appeared over the top of the flames, and ran at Raiu. Raiu, not even noticing that Josh was behind him, was hit with Tackle right to the back. Shaken, he stumbled over and tried to regain his balance. The Espeon, noticing the commotion between the two, hurried down to help him.
          "Two on one, huh?", Josh said to himself as he stared down his opponents. "Haha, I like these odds."
          The children were so focused on the battle between Raiu and the Leafeon that they didn't even notice the Umbreon sneak up behind them. From behind, he took out Nick and Chase within a heartbeat, but the sound of their grunts got Derek's attention. He turned around suddenly to see the Umbreon staring him right in the face.
          "And you thought you were smarter than your dad, huh?", the Umbreon asked him. "Lets see how you like this."
          One quick swipe of his tail. That was all it took to take Derek off his feet and start rolling down the hill. He barely caught a glance up at the top of the hill to see the Umbreon smother Emmi with his paw, and picking her up in his jaw quickly running back down the opposite end of the hill towards Raiu.
          "I'm sorry, Emmi. I didn't see it coming. Please.. Forgive me..", Derek said to himself as he lost consciousness rolling down the hill.
          Noticing that the Umbreon had Emmi in his jaw, Raiu and the Espeon backed off Josh immediately and ran away with the Umbreon through the flames and back the way they had gone, just down another path. Josh, however had no time to pursue them, and he quickly ran around the hill searching for Gabe and the others, and rounded them all at the bottom of the hill, away from the flames.
          They all watched helplessly as their house burned to the ground, and they were too busy anyway taking care of Andrew and Dan and all the others who had been hurt during the attack. Only Luna noticed that Emmi was gone, and it wasn't until then that Josh realized why they had truly come. He turned and stared off into the distance, hoping to catch one last glimpse of them before they disappeared, but they were already long gone. All he could do now was wait until Dan and the others regained consciousness and they would have to meet up with Mr. Tegalad and Crystal. Then they would go looking for Raiu and Try to save Emmi. But until then, all he could do was hope that Emmi would be ok..
