An Eevee's Story

Chapter 7 ~ Friendly Fight

          They walked in silence. Emmi had no idea where they were headed, because they had passed the school arena awhile back. Raiu and her dad walked ahead of them, barely speaking to each other, while her and Derek walked behind them.
          After a little ways, they reached a clear, open area just outside the range of the forest. It was twice as big as the school arena and the terrain was extremely hazardous. Emmi wondered why they had chosen this particular area to fight, but her thoughts were cut short when they reached the center of the arena..
          "Alright, Shadow.", Raiu told him. "This is where we are going to have our battles. First up is Derek and Emmi."
          "Thanks, dad.", Derek said. "Alright, you ready Emmi?"
          "Yea, I'm ready. Good luck, Derek.", she said.
          "Oh, I'll need more than luck to beat you, Emmi.", Derek told her. "The way you battled me in school actually scared me, so I know it will be tough to beat you, but thanks, though."
          They both headed off to other sides of the field. Emmi continued to think to herself how Derek had changed so quickly, but she liked it. She never thought about it, but for some reason, she was starting to like him. But she dreaded fighting, and she knew that if her anger got the best of her, both of them would be done for.
          They both stopped at the edge of the field and turned around to face each other. They both stared at each other like they were expecting the other to make the first move. But soon, Raiu stepped forward into the center of the field with Shadow.
          "Ok, both of you! Here we go! Fight your hearts out! Start whenever you wish!", he shouted, then he and Shadow wandered off the field and back into the forest.
          "Wait!", Emmi shouted. "Derek, where are they going?"
         "I overheard them talking about us fighting alone and them fighting alone so there would be no distractions, or something like that.", Derek answered. "But I have no idea where they were headed to fight. This is the only clearing in this area that I know of."
          "Well, I hope they are back soon.", Emmi thought to herself.
          "Anyway, Emmi, are you ready?", Derek shouted back at her.
          "Yea!", Emmi shouted back. "Lets do this!"
          At this Derek used Quick Attack, jumping from rock to rock across the field, heading right for Emmi. Emmi now realized why Derek and Raiu had chosen this particular area to fight. They both knew this area very well!
          "Well, if you want to play that way..", Emmi said.
          She too used Quick Attack and headed right for Derek, also using the rocks to jump closer and closer. Soon they were on top of each other, darting past each other because neither of them could hit the other. To Emmi, she thought they were almost like birds flying together in the air, but this thought was cut short when she lost concentration and Derek hit her head on. She was flung backwards and hit a rock head on. She staggered back to her feet, limping.
          "Oh no, Emmi, are you ok?", Derek asked after he had stopped right next to her. Emmi took advantage of this, and used Tackle and sent him staggering backwards. "Ouch! What was that for?"
          "we are battling, aren't we?", Emmi asked. "We can worry about me when the fight is over. For now, though, lets just keep fighting."
          "Ok, Emmi, if you insist.", Derek said, smiling.
          The fight resumed. Back and forth they went, each landing an attack on the other when they let their guard down. Soon, however, neither of them were of much shape to fight, after tiring themselves out.
          "I can't believe that even when she's not angry,", Derek thought, "she is still just as strong as me. She is my kind of girl."
          "I still can't believe he interrupted the battle to see if I was ok?!", Emmi thought to herself. "Oh, he really has become a nice guy after all."
          Emmi still thought that she needed to win to prove something to Raiu. She remembered that they were still away, probably fighting each other. She prepared herself, and shouted at Derek, "Hey, Derek! How about I end this little game of ours now?"
          "What are you talking about?", Derek asked. "We are evenly matched."
          Emmi just smiled. She drew up the last of her energy and prepared a Shadow Ball. Derek watched as her attack grew in strength, but he was too tired to move. He watched helplessly as she unleashed her Shadow Ball at him, and it hit him hard. He fell to the ground onto a rock, where he began panting really hard.
          Emmi staggered forward as well, falling over on her side and began to also pant hard. They both laid there for a few minutes, until Derek stood up and walked towards Emmi. He sat next to her and just laughed.
          "Well, that was a fun battle. I guess we can say you won that fight as well, huh?", he said.
          "Yea, we could,", Emmi said, "or we could call it a tie."
          "I like that idea.", Derek said. They both laid there laughing for a little bit, until Emmi realized that her leg hurt from the rock she hit early in the fight. Derek decided that they would go find her dad and Raiu so she wouldn't have to walk on it all the way home.
          "Here. ", Derek said to her." "Climb on my back and I can carry you to your dad."
          "I don't think that's such a good idea, Derek.", she told him. "You're just as tired as I am. I don't want to make you even more exhausted."
          "Nonsense.", he said as he lifted her up onto his back. "Let's just go find our parent's and we can get you off that foot for awhile."
          Slowly they started walking away from the open clearing and into the woods to go find Shadow and Raiu. Emmi realized now how much Derek had changed, just through his self-less act of carrying her home. "I never thought I'd ever say this, but I like him a lot..", she said to herself as she nuzzled into the back of his neck. They continued to walk until they heard a voice shouting.
          "Help! Help! Somebody, help!", the voice kept on repeating.
          Emmi and Derek headed towards where the voice was coming from, and came across an Eevee who looked like he had been scared to death.
          "Are you alright?", Derek asked him. "You look terrible what happened?"
          "How do I know that you're not one of the ones who were after him?!", the Eevee countered.
          "I'm sorry, I've been rude.", Derek told him. "Hi, my name is Derek, and this little girl on my back is Emmi. What's your name?"
          "M-m-my name is Christopher.", he told them. "And, pardon my asking, but did you say that your name was Emmi?"
          "Yea, my name is Emmi.", she told him. "Why? Have we met before?"
          "No! But please, we must be out of her!", he shouted. He was constantly looking over his shoulders as he talked, but Emmi had no idea why.
          "Why?", Derek asked him. "Why are you so paranoid? We're just looking for Emmi's dad, Shadow."
          "S-s-s-Shadow!", he shouted at them. "That's why I'm here!!"
          "Wait, so your here to see my dad, too?", Emmi asked, a little confused.
          "No, I'm not here for that!", he again shouted." He looked over his head again and turned around to say, "We need to hide. They are after me!"
          "Who's after you?", Derek asked him.
          "The ones that saw me in the bushes! The ones that were following that-- Oh, we need to hide! I can't say everything right now, but I'm running from the pokemon who jumped your dad, Shadow! He sent me here to warn you to get away!"
